3D Printing Service

3D printing allows for quick prototyping compared to traditional manufacturing processes however it does still take a good bit of time to print each project.

This small hollow vase, shown next to a battery for size comparison, took about 1.5 hours to print.

Process
  • Find, edit, or create a project (Learn More).
  • Project file must be submitted using this Google Form. Note: In order to upload your file, you will need a free Gmail account.
  • Project will be evaluated by library staff.
  • Library staff will notify you whether the project meets the terms of use or not.
  • If the project does meet the terms of use, the project will be scheduled to print. Projects are printed on a first-come-first-served basis. Wait times will vary based on current volume of requests.
  • Library staff will notify you when the item is ready for pick-up. The project must be picked up within 2 weeks of completion. Projects that are not picked up within 2 weeks become property of the Muskingum County Library System.
Terms Of Use

The Muskingum County Library System provides 3D printing services to the public for creative, educational, and practical purposes.

The John McIntire Makerspace contains 3D printers that are available for direct use by patrons. In addition to this service, the Muskingum County Library System also accepts requests from patrons to print their 3D models for pick up later by the patron. Patrons do not have to have a Makerspace User Agreement on file for this service, but must abide by all aspects of this and other library policies.

The library reserves the right to refuse any 3D printing request for reasons including but not limited to:

  • Any item that is unsafe, harmful, or prohibited by law
  • Any item that is inappropriate for the library environment
  • Any item that violates the intellectual property rights of an individual or corporation
  • Any item that could be used as a component of a firearm, including prop/toy firearms

The Muskingum County Library System will maintain the confidentiality of patrons’ printing history. However, the prints themselves may occur within public view, and MCLS makes no guarantee that any particular print will not be seen by members of the public.

Limitations
  • One print per patron per month will be provided free of charge. The cost for additional 3D prints is based on the weight of plastic used and is determined after printing is complete.
  • Printouts must fit within the dimensions of the print bed for our printers: 9.84″ × 8.3″ × 8.3″ (250mm × 210mm × 210mm).
  • The maximum estimated print time per project is 16 hours as determined by the slicing software.
  • Multiple smaller objects can be combined into a single project as long as all objects fit on the print bed and the estimated print time stays within the 16-hour limit.
  • 3D printing with multiple colors of filament is sometimes possible. Please contact our Digital Skills office (methods listed below) to discuss the feasibility of your project before submitting your request.
  • MCLS staff have the ability to refuse to print a design that has clear design flaws or is beyond the printer’s or the Makerspace’s time capabilities.
