The Board of Trustees has announced the selection of Jennifer Spillman, MLIS as the next director of the Muskingum County Library System.  She will fill the vacancy created by the retirement of long time director Sandi Plymire. The selection was made after a statewide search and selection process.

“We are very pleased to announce this appointment,” reported Doug Fink, Board of Trustees President.  “The board was impressed with Jennifer’s vision of the future for public libraries, her proven experience in staff leadership and her commitment to community outreach.”

Jennifer Spillman has been serving patrons in libraries, both public and academic, for over 16 years. She joined Dayton Metropolitan Library as the Adult Services Division Manager in 2012 and was promoted to the Main Library Manager in 2015. She is also Chair of the Adult Programming Committee. Spillman began her library career in 1991 as a Library Assistant at Alden Library (Ohio University) where she assisted patrons at the Reference Desk, the Circulation Desk, and shelved library materials.  She holds a BS in Management and a Minor in Business Administration from Ohio University and a Masters in Library and Information Science from Kent State University. She spent 5 years in Retail Management and then decided to rejoin the library forces at Beeghly Library (Ohio Wesleyan University) where she worked as a Reference Librarian, Circulation Manager, and in Tech Services.  She then entered the realm of public libraries at The Lane Libraries where she ran the Outreach Department, focusing on services for Children and Lifelong Learners.  Currently she serves as President of the Southwest Ohio Network Executive Board, is a member of the Leadership Dayton Class of 2017, and holds a seat on the Ohio Library Council’s Management and Administration Division Council.

Her focus is on unifying the community; knowing and understanding patron needs and guiding the provision of relevant information services to encourage exploration, creation, and collaboration.  She endeavors to help people believe in themselves, achieve their dreams, and to attain success in life.  When not at work she loves gardening, traveling with her robust family of 5 children, and is learning to play the banjo.

Jennifer Spillman will begin her tenure as Muskingum County Library System Director on January 9, 2017.
