Baby Story Time
Baby Story Time is a lively 20-30 minute weekly program that provides an early positive and enjoyable library experience for infants up to 24 months old and their caregiver. Care givers and babies respond together to a variety of literacy activities. Baby Story Time is offered at John McIntire Library.
Toddler Story Time
Toddler Story Time, designed for children 2 to 3 ½ years old, is a weekly parent (care giver)/toddler program in which the child is introduced to short stories, finger plays, simple songs, and learning activities. Toddler Story Time is offered at John McIntire Library.
Preschool Story Time
Preschool Story Time is offered for children 3 ½ to 5 years old. Activities include stories, songs, finger plays, creative dramatics, and crafts based on a weekly theme. Preschool Story Time often provides a child’s first independent learning experience in a group of children. Preschool Story Time is offered at John McIntire Library, Dresden Branch Library, Duncan Falls/Philo Branch Library, New Concord Branch Library, Roseville Branch Library, and South Branch Library.
Bedtime Story Time
Bedtime Story Time is offered weekly for children 2 to 5 years old and their care giver. Children are encouraged to attend in their p.j.’s and bring a blanket or their favorite stuffed animal or bedtime toy. Bedtime Story Time is offered at John McIntire Library.
Dial A Story
Call your library and hear a different story each week. Dial A Story invites young people to enjoy a 4 minute story told by a professional story teller. Dial in for a story 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Call 740/455.6933.
Teen Programs
Throughout the year the library presents cool programs just for teens. Check the calendar page for upcoming programs. Have a great idea for a program? Come to the next Teen Council meeting or contact our Reference Department.
Summer Reading
This 6 week read-for-fun program has something for everybody in the family.
Children set a reading goal, attend optional weekly programs, earn incentives as they read their way to their goal, and get a FREE paperback book when they reach their goal.
Teens set a reading goal, can register to participate in cool programs with other teens from all over Muskingum County, earn prizes, register for prizes each time they read a book and select a FREE paperback book when they reach their goal.
Book Bags to Go! is a Summer Reading program for busy adults. The library selects books for a bag filled with Mysteries, Romance, Westerns, or Science Fiction. You check out the bag filled with the category you are interested in reading. Return the books when you have read them and keep the Book Bag!
School Age Programs
Special School Age Programs are offered for students in grades 1-5 throughout the year.
Family Night Programs
Monthly evening programs are designed for families to enjoy story tellers, musicians, magicians, dancers, singers and other special performers at these evening programs presented in the auditorium of John McIntire Library at 6:30 PM.
Book Discussions
The library leads book discussion programs throughout the year at the library and at special locations in the community. A variety of titles are discussed including mysteries, bestsellers, true crime, memoirs and non fiction. Free copies of the selected title are loaned to program participants. Online Book Clubs
Join our Online Book Clubs and start reading books in your e-mail. Give us 5 minutes each day, Monday through Friday, we’ll send you a portion of a chapter to read. After you’ve read 2 or 3 complete chapters from a book, we’ll start sending you a new book.
If you’d like to finish a book, stop by the library and pick up a copy. Every week we feature new books.

Outreach
We understand not everyone is able to visit one of the 6 public libraries in Muskingum County. That’s why we developed Outreach Services! If you want more information regarding Outreach Services available through the Muskingum County Library System, contact our Extension Department at 740/453.0391, ext. 142.
Talking Book Service
This service is designed for library customers with vision impairment or who are unable to hold a book. The library makes recorders and tapes of books available for you to listen to in the convenience of your home. To receive an application, contact our Extension Department at 740/453.0391, ext. 142.
Service to Senior Centers, Retirement Homes and Nursing Homes
The library system delivers books and a variety of resources directly to Senior Centers, Retirement Homes and Nursing Homes.
Telecommunication Device for the Deaf (TDD)
The library provides telephone service to hearing impaired customers through the use of TDD equipment located at the Reference Desk. Call 740/455.6931.
Exhibits & Displays
The library hosts a variety of traveling exhibits and displays as well as artwork created by area artists. The John McIntire Library Carnegie Wing Gallery is open to the public Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Historic Art Wall
The Historic Art Wall at John McIntire Library is a “rubbing” wall which depicts the proud history of Zanesville, Ohio and Muskingum County. Enlisting natures design, 21 historic images are surrounded by handmade ceramic tiles created by DeBorah Goletz of New York.
To make a rubbing, request paper, tape and crayons available at the Children’s Desk. To schedule a group visit to the Historic Art Wall, contact our Childrens Department at 740/453.0391, ext. 115.
Computer Classes
A variety of computer classes are offered in the Computer Lab located on the second level of John McIntire Library. For more information contact our Technology Department at 740/453.0391, ext. 128.
Friends Book Store
Friends of the Library operate the Friends Book Store featuring a variety of gently used books and magazines at bargain prices. The store is located in John McIntire Library and open to the public Tuesdays 4 – 6 p.m.; Wednesdays 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturdays 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
