MCLS Comic Con 2022

Saturday, October 22 from 10 AM – 3 PM

Celebrate all things comics, manga, anime, gaming, and pop culture at the first-ever MCLS Comic Con. There will be fun activities, a game room, informational panels, and so much more! 

The convention will be held at the John McIntire Library and is free and open to all.

Calendar of events

Game Room with board games and video games

  • The game room will be open from 10 AM–12 AM and 1 PM–2:30 PM. We will have board games, Nintendo Switch games, Xbox Series X games, and Magic the Gathering available. Attendees are also welcome to use the game room space to play RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons.

Cosplay contest with categories for kids, amateur, intermediate and experienced cosplayers

  • The Cosplay Contest will begin at 2:30 PM in the Auditorium. Participants will be able to enter into one of 4 categories of competition (Kids, Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced). All participants will be able to walk across the stage to show off their costumes. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be selected for each category by a panel of judges. Please be prepared to show a reference photo of the character you are cosplaying.

Categories

  • Kids – Anyone under the age of 12
  • Beginner – For this category store bought costumes are ok. Participants in this category must not have won a cosplay contest before.
  • Intermediate – For this category, costumes must be 50% made by the individual entering the competition.
  • Advanced – For this category, costumes must be 80-100% made by the individual entering the competition.
  • 20-Minute Cosplay Construction
    • Have you ever wanted to try your hand at cosplay? Now is your chance with this 20 Minute Cosplay Construction Panel. Participants in this panel will be given 20 minutes to assemble a costume using assorted supplies provided by the library.  If you finish a costume you are proud of, you can enter the Cosplay Competition later in the day.
  • Anime Theater
    • A few times throughout the day, we will show some family-friendly anime on the big screen in the auditorium. See the schedule for times.
  • Anime Trivia
    • Are you an Anime lover looking for a chance to showcase your knowledge? Come to the “Name That Anime” trivia panel. 
  • K-Pop Random Play Dance
    • During this panel, participants can listen to and dance to Korean pop (K-Pop) songs. This is the panel for you if you enjoy music and/or dancing. Songs from various K-Pop artists will be featured, and participants are encouraged to get on their feet, dance along, and have a great time.
  • Informational Panels
    • Why Read Comics?
      • Comics and graphic novels have become one of the most popular forms of literature in recent years. In this panel, we will discuss the history of comics, the importance of comics as a form of media, and how comics and graphic novels can be great tools for literacy.

    Everyday Cosplay

    • Have you ever wanted to look like your favorite fictional characters but didn’t want to look like you were wearing a Halloween costume? This is the panel for you where we will teach you how to dress like your favorite characters using everyday clothing, maybe even ones you already own. We’ll teach you tips, tricks, and techniques so you can look at any character and make a casual cosplay.
