Hoopla Flex is a new feature from Muskingum County Library System that enhances your borrowing experience. You’ll still get your usual 15 instant borrows per month, but now you can also enjoy 5 hoopla Flex borrows at a time. With hoopla Flex, you can recommend titles, place holds, and access a wider selection of ebooks and audiobooks. These Flex titles operate differently from instant ones; only one person can borrow them at a time, similar to physical books. While all titles aren’t instant due to publisher restrictions, hoopla Flex expands your options to give you access to more bestselling authors like James Patterson, Danielle Steel, Nora Roberts, Rebecca Yarros and more! All you need is your library card.

Why are hoopla Flex titles not instant?
Unlike Instant titles, Flex titles are not simultaneous-use copies; only one person at a time may borrow a Flex title. If a copy is out on loan, it cannot be borrowed again until returned. If a title is currently out on loan, you may place a hold on the title. This is similar to how physical books are loaned out by the library. We wish all the titles were instant. However, some publishers have restrictions on lending models for public libraries. By adding Flex we open up access to even more titles to enrich the hoopla experience.
What do I need to start borrowing from hoopla?
All you need is your MCLS library card, a valid email address, and a device connected to the internet. If you do not have a library card, you can instantly register for an MCLS Digital Library Card or visit any of our locations to register for an MCLS All Access Library Card.
How will I know the difference between hoopla instant title and hoopla Flex titles?
All hoopla titles will now have one of two icons on the cover of the title. For Flex borrows you will see a arrows connected in a circle, and for instant borrows you will see a lightening bolt.
How many hoopla Flex titles can I borrow?
In addition to access to new bestselling authors and titles, you will now be able to place up to five (5) holds for items and recommend three (3) titles that are currently not in our hoopla Flex collection.
